Sequence Alignments and Databases

A primary focus of bioinformatics education and research is storage, retrieval and management of molecular sequence data. The methods of sequence retrieval rely heavily on sequence alignment algorithms that are optimized for finding similar sequences among thousands of sequence records.

The pages in this section are a beginning description of methods for sequence alignment and the use of sequence and protein family databases.
